What happens when you get a room full of music veterans in the studio together? Great new music! The Original Starfires brings the sounds of the 1960’s to today’s audiences, with inspired new originals and a selection of choice classics.
Though based in San Diego, the Original Starfires are an all-star, updated version of the Cleveland, OH Starfires, who had several regional hits in the 1960’s, including “Stronger Than Dirt.” Led by an original member of the band, drummer Howard Blank, The Original Starfires also features frontman Eli Holland, a singer who has recorded with electronica pioneer and Tangerine Dream founder, Peter Baumann, notably, the 1983 turntable hit, “Strangers In The Night.”
The band also includes latter day Mamas and Papas / Buckinghams singer Laurie Beebe Lewis and singer-songwriter Lori Wilson, as well as keyboardist Yasha Susoeff, lead guitarist Mel Vernon, bassist Matt Simpson and saxophonist Jim Bruno, all with decades of recording and touring to their credit.
In concert, The Original Starfires showcase all the hits the band’s members are associated with, and their new material is right in line with that, cut from the same cloth. For fans of 1960’s era pop-rock - the kind you’d hear on your transistor radio, or anxiously would await on a weekly radio countdown - The Original Starfires, offer up 60’s inspired music at its best.
